Safety Innovation Consultant

Role description

About PKG Safety Innovation

PKG Safety Innovation™ (part of Pocketknife Group®) is a specialist safety innovation consultancy focused on the intersection of safety, technology, and innovation. We work with safety leaders and their teams in global and local organisations at various stages of their digital maturity journey, bringing together specialists in safety, technology, human factors, data, and change management to craft solutions that fit our clients’ specific situations. Our philosophy and our mission is Better Work, By Design.

Our work is grounded in four values:

  • Honesty — We tell the truth, even when it’s hard. This is how trust is built.
  • Rigour — We do it the right way, not the easy way. The work must be solid.
  • Courage — We embrace discomfort. We challenge what isn’t working. We adapt and change.
  • Contribution — We focus on what matters most. We solve problems that make a difference.

The role

This is a rare opportunity to deepen your safety expertise as part of a boutique consultancy known for its thought leadership and distinctive position at the intersection of safety, technology and innovation, helping clients solve their most complex problems.

The role offers significant autonomy and direct client exposure from day one. We’re building our methods and IP as we grow, and the right person will see that as an opportunity to shape how we work and, over time, to carve out and own their own area of expertise within the business. It suits an ambitious safety professional who can see the potential of the safety-tech space and wants to go deeper into it.

What you’ll do

  • Deliver high-quality safety consulting and advisory work, contributing safety domain depth to strategy, problem-solving and recommendations.
  • Work on multidisciplinary engagements that blend safety expertise with technology, data and innovation.
  • Build and grow your core consulting and transformation capabilities, supported by experienced colleagues and hands-on client work.
  • Build trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and represent PKG credibly.
  • Contribute to PKG’s business development — supporting proposals, client relationships and new opportunities. Everyone at PKG plays a part in helping the business grow.
  • Contribute to PKG’s thought leadership, research and intelligence, helping us stay at the leading edge of safety tech.
  • Grow into ownership of a defined area of expertise or service over time, building from your own strengths and interests.

Essential experience

  • Safety domain depth: A strong grounding in health and safety, ideally gained in or around high-risk industries such as energy, utilities, construction, mining, oil and gas, or chemicals.
  • Consulting craft or potential: Either credible management consulting or technology transformation experience, or clear potential through transferable skills — structured thinking, the ability to turn ambiguity into clarity, and the confidence to work directly with clients.
  • Innovation and continuous learning mindset: Curiosity, humility, and an appetite to grow.
  • Communication and credibility: Strong communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with teammates and clients at a range of seniorities.

Desirable experience

  • Fluency or strong interest in how digital, data and AI can transform safety and operations.
  • Exposure to safety technology, systems, or transformation work.
  • A point of view on where the safety-tech space is heading and where you’d want to make your mark.
  • Fundamentals of project management and change management within technology transformations.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft 365 suite, particularly the Power Platform (PowerBI, Power Automate etc)
  • Proficient with AI tools such as MS Copilot, Anthropic Claude and Google Gemini.
  • Training and assessment skills.

Location, compensation and terms

This is a permanent, full-time role, remote/hybrid within Australia. We have an operational preference for candidates based on the East Coast (Sydney or Melbourne), but are open to outstanding individuals in other major Australian cities as well.

Applicants must have full living and working rights in Australia.

Start date: Immediate.

Next steps
